Free at last .... to sleep!?

I meant to post this Friday....I'm running a bit behind.
As most of you know I've been taking some nutrition courses at night for the past couple of years, but it has been trying with me being pregnant and hopefully my mark from my last class will not reflect it. It has been a busy couple months of 2010, with my nutrition course, our prenatal class, prenatal yoga and work....it's been kind of crazy keeping up. But now, since we finished our last prenatal class on Wednesday and handed in my final assignment for my class on Thursday...I am done! But what shall I do with myself now. Everyone is telling me to relax and get some sleep while I can....but me going to sleep early?! I'll have to put a lot of effort into that but I will definitely try. It doesn't help that the olympics are on....go torah bright!! She had an amazing run last night to win the gold!

So since I have all this spare time now I will have definitely more time to write in the blog and send out more pictures. Which was one of the main reasons why I wanted to start it. I love sharing pictures, but you know how the digital age works, we take the pictures, then oohh and ahhh over it on the screen of our cameras....and it gets stored onto our laptops never to be shown again! but no, I will share them. So look forward to lots of pics.

And since I had a few minutes this morning, I had time to make me and my hubby a shake. He usually doesn't like my shakes, but I can at least say that he will at least try my concoctions at least once. As my co worker says...."they look like mud". So if you feel brave enough, please try this one out. I had some ripe avocados in the fridge. I find that if you leave them on the counter to ripen and when they are ripe to put them into the fridge to store them where they tend to last longer. Growing up my dad always made us avocado shakes and I know my best friend mentioned that she grew up having them too! So here's my take on the "avocado shake".

Avocado shake (serves 2)

1 cup of ice

One avocado

1 tsp. spirulina

1/4 cup raw walnuts or 2 tbsp. sesame seeds

1/2 cup spinach

1/2 cup almond milk or regular milk (add to reach desired consistency)

honey/agave nectar for desired sweetness

*feel free to add a scoop of rice protein and/or a tbsp or two of ground flax seeds, I left them out this morning to keep the smoother consistency and of course, to make it "hubby friendly".

Directions: Place all ingredients into a blender and mix. Add more milk to get the consistency you want and more honey/agave nectar to taste.

Oh, and a co-worker gave me a recipe that is probably more hubby friendly:

German Green Shake

1 avocado
condensed milk for desired consistency and sweetness
1 cup ice.

Mix in blender. And serve. I haven't tried this one but this is probably yummy...

Good luck and have fun with it!
