Well, just when we were thinking we were on a roll with our baby prep....we hit a delay. There's been appointments to keep and bags to be packed, and all was going to plan. We finished the prenatal classes, breastfeeding class, still looking into a first aid/CPR course.
But we had our appointment booked with St. JA for the free car seat clinic (donations are accepted) where they offer some feedback and inspect your installation of the car seat. We picked up the second base for EP's truck the night before and he installed both bases into our vehicles. We were all set for our appointment last night.
I was happy the hubby was with me since the auto place was on a deserted street with a handwritten sign on the front door stating that the car seat clinic was in the rear of the building. Obviously shady, but hey all for the benefit of the baby.
Going around the building, it was the right place, there were 4 cars in the garage bays, with many pregnant women, dads to be and men and women with navy blue police shirts looming around. When it was finally our turn to bring up the car, I was getting a little anxious.
We had a met a couple of new dads, where their wives actually gave birth to their kids the night before. St. Patty's Babies!! One of the women were three and half weeks early, her due date was April 11. And they had thought that their appointment last night had given them more than enough time. I felt a sense of relief that we were at our appointment getting it done, but anxious at the same time.
Two gentlemen volunteers were working on my car and it looked like a rough start. They weren't able to get the right level and limited movement of the seat. It was definitely tough work and the classes were right you would need more than one person to install a car seat. It seemed like they tried every option including a non slip mat, some swimming noodles, for about an hour. Cars were coming in and leaving, while we were still waiting. I think they brought over the supervisor over 3 times and it was a no go. Thumbs down was what she did all times. More volunteers came to help, and it looked close but it in the end, it just didn't cut it. So, we were told that the car and infant seat were not compatible.
Can it be ...that our cute little infant car seat was not a match with my beloved vw?
So as stated by the supervisor... my options were to buy a new car seat or a new car....!?!? I am opting for a new car I said out loud but my husband never responded...though i did get a few laughs at the garage. So...back to the drawing board, and it looks like I might get the PG car seat I wanted in the first place :)I guess there is always the brighter side of things.
I just wanted to put a note out there that the volunteers at St. JA were very helpful and it's definitely a service that I would recommend. And hopefully everyone else will have a better outcome on their first try.
Now to begin my weekend!

I like the new design of your blog page!
Good thing you found out now about the car seat compatibility issue with your car, with plenty of time to get things in order. For the first aid/CPR course you are looking for, we have a friend who is works as a certified instructor. Let me know if you want details. :o)
oh no! well, if you need to borrow a PG, I have one. :)
what an ordeal....installing the base for the peg was easy. which seat were you installing?
And yes, I agree with Steph I....I love the new layout!
Thanks girls! It was the Maxi Cosi, not so cute anymore. Hopefully be able to return it all tonight and get the peg tomorrow....
